D'Ette Nogle
D’Ette Nogle
b. 1974, United States of America
Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA
Since the 1990s, D’Ette Nogle has cultivated a practice in video and installation that is at once probing and discursive, navigating the material expressions of social, political, cultural and economic forces and the critical points at which they intersect. Also a public high school teacher in Los Angeles, Nogle deftly navigates the boundary between exposition and didacticism. Nogle’s subjects range from the relationship between an artist and their product, to the global impacts of American capitalism since the Second World War. Her videos and their installation-based trappings carefully sequence material from popular culture, art history, critical theory, and world history, punctuated with moments of unflinching self-disclosure. Presenting an abundance of concrete information, yet elegantly maintaining a margin of ambiguity in her theses, Nogle’s work continually advances the dialectical over the absolute.
