Elizabeth Orr’s Work Ethic staged a conversation between two people about the economic paradoxes inherent within the “glamour” industries of fashion and art in New York City. Interspersed with live sound from Orr and accompanied by the performers’ choreographed movements, the dialogue revealed the struggles both currently face to maintain a foothold in these worlds and the income disparities within their professions. In a series of monologues, the performers were critical of the obscene extravagance a small percentage of participants enjoy and ambivalent about their desire to be part of this elite. Performers: Lee Maida and Anna-Karin Loureiro.
